Trauma Informed Approach

 

Trauma can create distinctive barriers to exercise. A person experiencing PTSD (or any kind of trauma) benefits greatly from a trauma-informed response and tailored support from their exercise instructor. 

 

Having experienced PTSD myself, I understand how challenging things can be. There are many triggers, unique to each person. Approaches that do not consider trauma can actually trigger people and even re-traumatise them. 

 

I chose to undertake a trauma-informed approach to exercise course recently with The Movement because it's really important that as a fitness professional, I understand how to make the environment safe and supportive for everyone. My own experiences have given me a unique insight into the sensitivities of PTSD, and I have also learnt so much from this training. 

 

I have also spent 18 months working as a peer supporter voluntarily in the third sector, supporting people who have experienced significant and life-changing trauma. 

 

In addition to this, I have supported women 1:1 for 4 years.

 

I bring together all of the elements of my lived and learned experience to ensure that you are supported in a fully trauma-informed way.

 

For people who are experiencing any kind of trauma, it's all-consuming. Being able to safely access exercise in a non-judgmental space is important for everyone.

Hello, I'm Tonia. I would love to work with you to help you to reach your lifestyle, health, wellbeing and fitness goals.

I created the Live Yourself Better approach as a result of significant life challenges.

 

I'm a CIMSPA-certified personal trainer with a Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training (Practitioner).

 

My qualification includes CIMSPA-certified Nutrition to Support Physical Activity, Applied Anatomy and Physiology and Bespoke Exercise Programme Design, Customised Exercise Programme Instruction and Communication Techniques.

 

I have undertaken additional CIMSPA-accredited CPD in exercise referral, training perimenopausal and menopausal women, pregnant and postnatal women, trauma informed approach to exercise and training older adults.

​

I am also a certified mindfulness coach, and I being this into my practice, to create a holistic approach to lifestyle fitness and to help you reach your goals.

​

I am a CIMSPA member (C005483) have Enhanced DBS clearance for working with young people and I am insured by Insure4Sport (Policy Number I4S675188).
